Island hopping in Istanbul

As we have time up our sleeves, we’ve decided to take Istanbul the relaxing route (rather than jam packing our days). We checked our weather apps and decided that today would work well to visit the island chain just off the coast of Istanbul.

The weather app was wrong!

We sailed into this, you can just see the islands!

The dreary weather cleared for a while and we made our island selection based on where the sun was shining. So Heybeliada was our island of choice.

Food was foremost on our (my) mind, so this was our first port of call, which was a good thing, cause another shower of rain came through.

We then took a walk around the island (there is always a cat!).

And we then caught a ferry home again. What was most striking about this trip out to the islands, is that we were ferrying along for about an hour and in that time, Istanbul followed us. It is a MASSIVE city, over 15.7m and it extends for a very long way along the Asian side of the city.

These islands must be manic in summer/weekend periods, and they were perfectly quiet and quaint for our day trip out of the old city.
