Hitting local laksa and the markets

Last night while I was in the night market, a guy with one arm came by, with a pot out for donations, I, of course gave him something, I don’t need to know how he lost his arm at the shoulder. It’s the same reason why I don’t feel comfortable haggling in the markets here either. I avoid those stalls that have men running them, and if they are solely women, I do not haggle, they are fine… they’ve more than deserved my full price. There are places where this is certainly NOT the case! if you ask me “MISSY, you want perfume….!” I will avoid you like the proverbial!

I headed to Limapulo Terrace for a take on Peranakan cuisine, which is a blend of hokkien flavours of soy and bean paste and the Malay flavours of spice, coconut and tamarind. I ordered their Nyonya Laksa and a traditional coffee (my first in about 7 years!) for a late brunch. it was a great start to the day.

I then wandered over to the Central Market, to check out a feast of local crafts, art, clothing and food and tackled the Petaling St Markets again….. less grumpy this time!

After a couple of hours whiling my way around the stalls here, I headed homewards. My path home took me via the fabric district and I couldn’t help but check out their stocks! Did I purchase? Possibly!

I was aiming for an afternoon roof top swim before hitting up the night food market (again!) for dinner. As I hit the water, the afternoon thunderstorm let me know it was present with a massive crack of lightning…. So I was happy to get my dip in before the storm hit!

Again I hit the nightly food market, this time coming up with an ingenious plan to not get hassled while working out what to eat. I would “lurk” (such a great word), close-ish to a blonde couple/friends, close enough to be a wayward friend…. They’d get all of the approaches and I was left relatively to myself! What a plan hey?!

Tomorrow begins travel home, it will be a late check out, followed by monorail/train combo to the airport and thus ends the epic trip to finish off The Silk Road!
