Hamam Day

We had a traditional Turkish Hamam booked today, in one of the older, more traditional Hamam’s in the old city. Our Hamam dates back to the 15th century and consists of heated marble slabs on which you ware washed, scrubbed and massaged.

All sounds good, but the process can be a bit confronting! The last time I took a traditional Hamam, it was in Uzbekistan, 100% naked and those Ladies scrubbed us within an inch of our lives and handled us like sides of lamb!

Today’s Hamam was slightly more sedate, a little less naked (bottoms allowed) and the most dangerous thing that happened was both of us nearly slid off the marble slab when rolling over in bubbles…..

The waiting area

After we had been thoroughly washed, scrubbed and massaged, we headed off for the heated pool and sauna. Generally it was a thoroughly relaxing day!

We had missed breakfast though, so hit out for a super late lunch. We had a great lunch (too much wine) in a spot with a lovely view!

And sometimes it was just the walking there that was surprising…… like the moment when Kylie took a random left hand turn in the Grand Bazaar and bought a carpet?!

Tomorrow we are off to the Asian Side to discover the markets and more!
