And begins the time of London Kylie and Paula catching up! We met in the luggage collection section of the airport and then trained our way into Istanbul.
Our first day in town was a BIG one, we did just over 25,000 steps, many of those getting lost and finding ourselves again!

We are staying out of the old city, on the Northern European side in the district of Pera. It’s great, we are close to things and it’s only a 25 min walk into the Sultanahmet side of town, if you need to be there!
We spent much of our first day wandering the streets of Sultanahmet and the Grand Bazaar and re-acquainting ourselves with Istanbul.

We wandered the bazaars and city, found a lovely spot for lunch (and ducking the rain), and generally planned our next few days in the city.

As we headed home over the Golden Horn, we found a cute little wine bar at the top of the funicular, that called our names….. like this;

So we stopped for a glass….. or three……

While we were ensconced, Kylie got the great news that she had got a job, so we went from the above to this;

Especially when we added some sparkly wine that does these weird reverse sparkles called petnat (check out an actual description here!), which basically means that the wine has been developed to have its own natural sparkles.

As you can imagine, the night ended well! It ended more amazingly, when the hotel knocked on our door with more champagne, due to Kylie’s new job… (we were clearly more talkative when we got home that I had thought!).
Tomorrow we are off to the islands… more to come!
