Seeking shade, Lisbon heats up!

When researching campsites “near” Lisbon, we noted that for €4 more than a camp site, we could get a glamming site! So what would you chose… your own wet messy tent, tiny inflatable mattress etc, or a safari style clapping tent with 2 queen beds, fridge, fan etc? I can tell you what we chose!

We have decided that we are quite shite at buses, today we caught a bus from out the front of the campsite to take us into central Lisbon….. which did not. After taking us through a fascinating array of industrial areas and then finally turning away from the city, we jumped off…. Took the opportunity to grab a quick lunch at the marina and then Uber’d into our next destination.

The Feira da Ladra (Campo de Santa Clara), is a flea market that has been occurring in the same spot every Tuesday and Saturday since 1272…..! We did not purchase a single nick nack, used shoe or nannas old tea set. Still it was cool to just wander through.

From the flea market, we wandered through the old part of town, and our legs reminded us that they were sick of nasty uphill climbs…. Of which there are many in Lisbon!

There is also a funky street art culture in Lisbon.

Someone made the ridiculous suggestion that we should call continue onwards to the Castelo de Seo Jorge, just because we found an escalator that took us part of the way up…!

Very civilised, but did not take us ALL the way up!

732 stairs later, we were at the Castelo de Seo Jorge, an 11th century Moorish castle and palace, that can trace its origins back to the third century….

Despite the below pics, you will be happy to hear that I restrained myself from buying more tiles in Lisbon!

After all of this walking, some 25k steps, it was more than time to be fed and watered. We grabbed a few drinks along the way and then headed down to the local food market to snack and people watch….

Makeshift bibs have become necessary for me, as I slop food all over myself everywhere. I will be onto some serious stain removal when I get home!

Thanks bib for keeping me tidy for a bit longer during the day!
