(Really it was sanitary pad)……
Well, if that title didn’t get you reading this blog, nothing will! As you may have guessed from my previous entry, we are having engine troubles. We stopped at an isolated hill top for a photo yesterday and could hear the coolant boiling, added to that, it was full of oil….. so not a good situation to be in.
As mentioned, we limped back to Tremp, got the coolant manifold drained and cleaned and headed off. We know that there is a bigger issue with Lesley’s van, but being stuck in the middle of Spain was never going to be ideal.
So we limped the van toward the coast, stopping every hour or two to check the fluids and to get as much oil out of the coolant as possible. To start with, Lesley was doing this with paper towel, but this soon ran out. We quickly discovered that toilet paper was not good for mopping the oil out of the top of the coolant bottle.
No service station we stopped at had paper towel, so we resorted to using sanitary napkins to absorb the oil from the top of the coolant….. it worked a treat! We got to where we needed to be.
Of course this poses an issue for further travel in the van, as it looks like there will be an expensive repair needed to be done. So we’ve decided to limp the van to a port town called Bilbao, where Lesley can take the van back on the ferry and then in the meantime, hire a car, fill it with our camping gear and continue on the planned route.
It’s a massive bummer, especially for Lesley, who will need to find repairs for the van, but the trip will continue onwards.
Today was life admin day, doing washing, topping up supplies, and generally getting over the stress of yesterday…… day trip San Sebastián tomorrow…… then we will sort out our car hire and long term parking for the unwell van.
