Catalonia to the Basque Country

From Andorra we began winding our way across Catalonia to San Sebastián on the Bay of Biscay. the Pyrenees remained impressive for our drive. We wound our way through tiny hill top towns, always topped with a church, through fields of hay and grazing cattle and deep ravines where roaring water pushed through sheer rock faces to create perfect white water rafting opportunities (none for us this time though!).

We stopped in a little town called Sort, to perch along the river for a lunch of goats cheese, olive tapenade, crackers and local cured meat.

We continued to meander westerly across the Pyrenees when Google sent us on a really odd road. Winding up into some quite arid hills, we were definitely on the backroads. We stopped at the top of the range to take in the view. From here we could see 7 or 8 hang gliders chasing thermals, along with a clutch of eagles doing the same thing.

We also noted at this time that the vans engine was making some very odd noises. Assessing the options we headed back to the little town of Tremp to talk with a mechanic the next morning.

After a 1/2 day in at the car doctor, we had a patch job on the van and continued to carefully make our way across the last of Catalonia towards the coast where we will stop for a few days and get the van properly checked. We are staying in a tiny seaside village called Orio, just outside the busting city of San Sebastián.
