Last night we stayed in the capital of Andorra, Andorra da La Vella. It really gives an odd first impression of the country. It’s all very newly built, there are loads of prestige car dealers, high end investment banks, brand shopping and difficult parking (which is not good when you are in a 2.3m tall cargo van!). There was not a lot of soul to the place.
This morning we headed up the road to a village called Encamp for breakfast. We were immediately struck by how different it was from the capital (literally 5 mins up the road!). Quaint little stone buildings, a village cafe, dogs having coffee, all very sweet.
We wandered around Encamp, found some lovely back streets and bought Lesley a new sleeping bag #vanadmin! Encamp is a sweet little village that must turn into a pumping behemoth in ski season!
From Encamp we headed up to Canillo to cross the Pont Tibetà Canillo suspension bridge. Lesley has a fear of heights, but was keen to force herself to walk the Pont Tibetà Canillo. She’s done many height adventures, bungee jumping, zip lining etc, so she regularly pushes her fear boundaries!
After terrifying the bejesus out of Les, a cool drink in a lovely location was required…..
From our time of high flying on one side of the mountain, we took the gondola up the other side of the mountain for an amble around the lake and a hot chocolate. The weather up here in the Pyrenees has been delightful, but does get cold in the shade.
Finding camp for the night tonight was a bit of a challenge, as there have not been a lot of places to pull off to the side of the road. However we have found a stunning spot, just short of El Pas de La Casa and the French border. We are at 2,300m in altitude, it’s very nippy and we will be going to sleep Sound Of Music style, listening to cowbells. Dinner was made up of local olive tapenade, goats cheese, home cured salami and rosemary almonds and a $3.15Eu bottle of wine (remember that tax haven….. good for cheap booze!). Snooze well all, tomorrow is the Pyrenees and France! Xxx
