Slinging in Singapore

After a 24 hour delay, I was finally delivered into Singapore and to a hyperactive waiting Mum. Apparently 24 hours alone was enough and it was time to hit the town! Well, at the very least we walked around to the Gardens By The Bay to catch the light show (which we missed!) and to try to find some food…. I was a bit delirious by this point (overnight flight and all), so it was time to hit the hay.

I’d love to say that I was greeted by this Singapore Sling the next morning, but alas, it was 6:10am and my Mum says “Are you awake?!”….. no I’m not… I’m ignoring this stuff…. I managed to ignore it until about 6:30am…. And then… well yes, I can’t fake that I am actually asleep anymore! AWAKE!

So it was time to get up and get busy….! Breakfast at the hotel is Mum’s highlight and quite frankly keeps us going for most of the day….

First night in, I’m getting weary!

Our first order of the day was to head back to The Gardens By The Bay to check out the gardens and the Super Trees, these are what we aimed to see the light show on the night before… whoops, so by daylight it was!

After walking the gardens and the Super Trees, we moved on to the Sky Park Observation Deck at the top of the Marina Bay Sands. With 360 degree views of Singapore, you really get a solid idea of how much shipping comes into Singapore!

From the Sky Observatory, we tripped around Little India and on to Chinatown. When Thomas Raffles envisaged Singapore, he designed cultural quarters, Little India, Chinatown, Kampong Glam (Malaysian district)…. There’s possibly (definitely) something very colonial about this… ie keep “the help” somewhere out of sight, but close enough to do the work… but what it has done is to create uniquely flavoured districts, with distinct character and vibe.

From Little India and Chinatown, it was on to Raffles for a much deserved cool drink in The Long Bar and a bit of shade…! Clearly the bastion of Colonial expensive drinks was the answer…. I did my best to eat $90 worth of peanuts (in the shell…), but I’m really not sure I came close to the valuation! Either way it was a good opportunity to cool down, drink an icon and take in the atmosphere. (Side note, SS’s are too sweet for me!!).

Raffles required a panorama….. too big for my lens!

After a recuperating swim, we headed out to the food markets…. Because of course we needed more food!

I’m not sure who is going to wear whom out…! But I might be winning! We have a few more days in Singapore… so, there should be some more interesting posts… and definitely more food to be had!!!
