On our way back down from Scotland to Liverpool, we stopped in at Hadrian’s Wall for a quick walk and to look for the lucky penis engravings (so the Roman’s say anyway!). We probably hit the worst weather that I’ve had in the UK thus far, it was bucketing down! So we donned our dry pants and rain coats and headed out.

Built in 122AD, Hadrian’s wall stretched across northern England and marked the boundary between Roman Britannia and the unconquered Caledonia. The wall lies entirely within England and has never represented the Anglo-Scottish border. It’s a UNESCO world heritage site
The primary purpose of the wall was as a physical barrier to slow the crossing of raiders, people intent on crossing its line for animals, treasure, or slaves, and then returning with their loot. So really it was a tax wall, all about collecting customs etc as goods moved from north to south.

Mum insisted that I had bangers and mash while I was in the UK, so as you can see, I did. I’ll also be coming back the size of a well fed house! We stopped at The Twice Brewed Inn at Bardon Mill to wait for the weather to clear and have a late lunch. The weather didn’t clear, but the late lunch was fab.

I’m shortly off to catch a flight to Dubrovnik, to sail the Dalmatian Coast and then to head down to Montenegro to catch up with my friend Anya.
It’s sad saying goodbye to the UK and my travel buddy Lesley, but we’ve had a great time! Apparently our next adventure is to Everest Base Camp, so watch this space for that 🤣🤣🤣
