Beatles touring Liverpool + a hefty dose of family!

A few nights in Liverpool have been about prioritising washing and touring the birthplace of the Beatles, along with a hefty dash of meeting family.

We started the tour of Liverpool with some culture on the beach. Antony Gormley has an installation of statues called “Another Place”. These are relevant to me, as when I worked in Kalgoorlie, one of our attractions was the Antony Gormley statues at Lake Ballard. So it was great to go and see the cousins of Lake Ballard.

After a quick cup of tea with Lesley’s Dad in his back yard, we headed off on our Beatles site tour.

As you can see we hit all the usual suspects, and went to The Cavern Club where the Beatles used to play at the end of the night.

We caught up with Lesley’s Iranian cousins for dinner (yes at an Persian restaurant). When we did the Silk Road trip back a few years ago, we had hoped to catch up with them in Tehran. This didn’t work out at the time, so it was nice to meet them both in the flesh! The Liverpudlian accent is quite sing-songy and very fast. So over dinner, with added wine, there were times that I just wasn’t following the conversation at all!!

We will be off to the Lakes district shortly to climb Scafell Pike (our second and smallest of the three peaks).
