Food, food, food and more food!

The markets ran in Bonnieaux this morning and we were surprised as to how big they were for such a small town. Our stroll down to the boulangerie for breakfast took a whole lot longer and the line up to order was out the door. Clearly the boulangerie is geared up for days like these, because they got through us fairly quickly. So once coffee and croissant were consumed it was time to browse the market!

We bought the usual supplies for the day, baguettes, a wedge of local blue and some peaches. We were planing on not travelling too far afield today. Our first stop was the next town to the south, Lourmarin. To our surprise there was a massive market on there as well (and the traffic was mental!). You know things are getting extreme when you are watching tiny cars reverse parallel park up a steep curb to get onto the footpath. We found a designated park (ages away from the town) and walked back in. We strolled through town and then headed across to the local Chateau.

The Chateau de Lourmarin was probably one of the nicest that we’ve seen thus far. Like so many of the chateau’s, it fell into disrepair after being bought by local farmers just for the land. It was restored in the 1920’s. Funnily enough, this one only had 2 bedrooms (that we could see)!

By now we were hot and bothered and it was time to find a place to cool off…. Fortunately there are swimming lakes and rivers dotted all over Provence, making a cool off just a short drive away.

Etang de la Blonde
A lovely place for a swim!!!

We booked one decadent meal while we were away, in our small town there is a Michelin starred restaurant and we booked in some weeks ago. It’s a good thing that we did! It was busy. By the end of it all, we were both so thoroughly stuffed full, that trying to get up the hill to bed was a significant challenge!

I had the cheese of course!!!!
