There’s a church just above our little hotel in Bonnieux and every 15 minutes it has something to say, 1 strike for 15, 30 and 45 mins past and obviously it chimes for the hour. It has a certain tone to it that will always remind me of Provence. Whoever has programmed the clock is a fantastic person, because I have no idea when it stops for the evening, but it doesn’t restart its chiming again until 7am…….very civilised.

The other sound of Provence that really resonates with me, is the sound of cicada’s. They pulse away all day, sounding like summer, warm weather, sunny days and sunshine. There’s not a place in Provence where you won’t hear them clattering away to each other. They make me smile and are my ultimate white noise!

The smell’s of Provence are special too, of course there is the really obvious, lavande ,,, lavender…. It is everywhere and really does smell different to lavender elsewhere. They have lavender flavoured everything, ice cream, cocktails, starters and desserts. I like lavender, but perhaps not that much (though the cocktail was good thanks!!!)

I was sitting out on the terrace this morning, trying to be quiet, and up wafted the baked bread smell of the boulangerie…. Now that’s a great smell to have wafting into your nose…. Unless that food is still all the way at the bottom of the hill and no one has hiked down there for you!

We accidentally went to another winery,,,,, and bought wine again!
