In the theme of having early starts, Kylie and I clearly decided that we needed to go for the most extreme early start (though it could have been worse!). A 9am flight out of Gatwick saw us getting up at 3:30am to catch a flight to Marseille, France. That was early enough I think!
We were both looking forward to some sunshine, warm weather and stunning scenery and France did not disappoint. She did, however, add some colossal winds to the picture. Departure from the airport required a car pick up and some very solid thinking about driving on the right hand side of the road (Kylie thankfully picked up first shift) and we were away!
Given the early start, how long it took us to get the car sorted and the time difference, it was clearly lunch time (isn’t it always Mark?!) and so we pushed towards our destination of Provence to start 5 days of solid grazing…. Oh I mean sightseeing!!
Our first stop was at Ansouis, a pretty little town in the Luberon region. We got distracted from our mission, so you know it must have been good!

Gone were the pulsing crowds and impatient elbows of the travelling type in London. Gone was the need to take a strategically angled photo to give off the illusion of “aloneness”. We pretty much were and it was stunning! Lunch eventually called:

Sitting all around us there were only two accents, ours and French. For Kylie who does a spot of Aussie spotting on the train in London, it was a pleasant change.

The rest of the day was spent navigating the ever narrowing winding roads to tiny hill top towns, sitting by ancient ponds eating ice cream, exploring boulangeries and buying peaches.
