Transit days are always long and mine started on Monday, with an overnight in Melbourne due to flight changes. Though it’s easier to sleep in a hotel than on a plane, I still slept in fits and starts, worrying about alarms et al. 4am alarm, 5am airport…. Delayed takeoff (of course). Flying was uneventful, however I was struck by the stark contrast between JAL and Qantas. JAL gave me so much food I almost didn’t need dinner (almost) and their service was lovely. Compare this to Qantas, I don’t even need to use words, you already can see the comparison.
So I think the thing that I miss about travelling with my usual travel buddies is that is it much more fun and comforting to stuff up your trains together than it is alone. Alone you can get a little panicky about where you’re going to end up, where as, with a friend it becomes an adventure. I got my trains and transfer into Tokyo Station all sorted and I even managed to get out of Tokyo Central Station at the right exit point. All I can say is Google maps have done themselves proud.
I have been asked to take photos of the oddest vending machines that I can find. Today’s effort is pretty poor, as you will see below. I hope to do better in coming days.
